Lemak is a small Maasai community located at the edge of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. It is usually overlooked as a place for visitors & volunteers to help improve on the very poor facilities at the local school. The school provides education for children from a wide area and instead of travelling long distances each day they are now able to board. We have been working with the Headmaster and teachers to improve the buildings, facilities and environment for the children. Here are details of some of the projects we are trying to assist with.

Many of the buildings/classrooms are run-down with broken doors and windows and have not been decorated since the school opened.
The dining hall is in the same condition with seating at meal times for only around 20 of the 500+ children who attend the school, so meals are currently taken seated on the ground under the trees outside. We are currently holding fund-raising events for new trestle tables and benches.
Water collection system - The school currently does not have its own water supply; we are working towards constructing a guttering system with water tanks to collect the rain water from the rooftops.
We have turned one of the classrooms into a library and currently members of our staff are building a shelving system, any donations of educational books are gratefully received.
The school is set on a hillside with no level area for the use of any sports. e.g football, netball, volleyball etc. We have started to level out an area of ground with the use of a grading machine and this is currently still underway.
Tree planting project. These will provide shade in and around the playground during the heat of the mid-day sun.
